I am a 22/m white. I was an army brat and lived everywhere with all races. I don't see race unlike 90% of the world. I just see people. I have this issue I've been struggling with for a long time. Since 13 I have fit in better and felt more comfortable around black people and in urban culture (I have a fade, diamonds in my ears, wear jordans and tims, only listen to r&b and rap) than in "white" culture. I wanna try dating black women too. I am just trying to be myself and I feel best this way, but I don't know why. I jus feel like this is who I am and if I'm not bein myself then I'm jus doin myself wrong. You gotta live for yourself. I'm struggling with this because some ppl want me to have this image of being this all american kid and it just isn't me. I am graduating college with my bachelor's in may and am gonna be a juve delinq counselor. Should I jus conform, live the way some (ex. my parents and proffessors) want, or to just be me? Why am I this way and what do you think?

I think you should stop asking yourself why you are this way and start accepting it and live it. You already know some of the answer to your question, and as you live, you'll find more answer to that question.

From personal experience, conforming is an easy way out of living a life. What have you got to lose if you just be yourself?

You know the answer already. You've got to do what you feel comfortable with. If a preppy lifestyle makes you uncomfortable, then why bother? That's all just superficial stuff anyway. Whether it's black people or white people you surround yourself with, the important thing is the people themselves.

Do your thing. If they have something to say about what you do, just tell them "don't do me, do you" Everyone has to be themselves. The more comfortable you be with who you are, the more your true potential can bubble up. The creme always rises to the top as snoop dog says.
