At the end of the day (whether it takes a day or a year), yes you do feel better. When I was young, I used to think that forgiving someone meant that I had to ignore my feelings for the sake of the other person or also let them get away with what they did. Now that Im older, in the big picture of life, when you forgive someone, it is NOT for that person's benefit but for your own. It is unhealthy to harbor negative feelings in your body because believe it or not they do affect you. If you are an unforgiving person, as time goes on and do not forgive, then you will end up with many negative thoughts/feelings for different people. People will not be affected as much as you will be affected. Yes, you can argue, "well he/she will miss out on my friendship, etc." so yes, that person will be affected. True, but we are talking about you here, not them. Also, we have to allow others room for mistakes, just like you make mistakes (say the wrong thing at the wrong time, basically offend someone, for example). In other words, just like the wonderful prayer "Our Father," "forgive us for our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." Isn't wonderful when you really f**k up and you just feel awful and torture yourself "why did I do/say that??!!" Then when the time comes to come face to face with that person....and that person's like "oh, that's ok...you were just (tired, sick, drunk, etc.) I understand...we're cool." And then this huge weight lifts off your chest/shoulders. Isnt that the best feeling ever?

nope. it didn't make me feel any better but ignoring the feeling just makes it all go away. the reason why i don't forgive is the thought that that person will expect i'll be forgetting everthing. as if nothing happened. so, deciding whether i prefer to feel the guilt feeling because i didn't forgive someone OR to feel being manipulated and fooled, i'd prefer to feel guilty. at least, in the latter, i am against myself. in the former, i don't have any control anymore.

If you forgive someone from your heart, than only you can feel better. But some people are not worth forgiving. They take it for granted.

No! Forgive and forget is better. Not forgiving would mean the pain/incident is still within you, carried in you and will still hurts. Why hurt yourself (especially when life goes on for the other party)? Emancipate yourself from mental slavery. None but yourself can free your mind :-)

Yes it has...but only to think that I have forgiven is not enough ..u hav to forget as well ...cuz if I think i have forgiven but i still remember the occasion and how i had felt then i'm nothing but a hypocrite...In my case, I don't remember when I have forgiven..I come to know of that occasion only when others tell me after a long period expressing their gratitude..I don't want to appear to be proud..but thats real forgiveness...forget it...and its really heavenly...Cuz bitterness in heart is also as fatal for us as it is for the offender

No, it will not make me feel better. It is a burden when we dont forgive someone whether it is because we cant or we wont. It is harder to move on.

Think of it like this:

You can forgive, but you can't forget.
