I noticed that a lot of negative things are being said about black women and their looks and the way they act. Some examples are:
Black Women are all overweight
They are trying to have hair like white people
They are loud and obnoxious
They are unattactive in general
They wear light colored contacts bacause they want to be white
They are on welfare with tons of kids
And these are just some of the things I keep hearing and seeing on this site. Why in the world would someone think all black women are like this? I think that everytime someone sees me who isn't black thinks I do those things I mentioned above. It's so hard trying to overcome stereotypes like those. Why should I have to?
And why aren't black men picked on as much? Does being a black woman have to be this way?
Ps. I know everyone gets picked on. I just noticed that black women gets the worst of it. It should'n't be this way. And if you have an insult, please try to be nice, or don't answer the question.

I agree and I am a white woman. I am sorry you are offended by the stupidity. Just remember that people that put down others are just insecure about theirselves.

I wouldn't say hard but less empathetic. We dehumanize and denigrated African American men so much in society. That the same venom whites spew out daily, have spilled over in our community. Even the younger kids, constantly hearing, "The world is against them, and they're no good black men, or they're just like their farther." Now, African American women are claiming, to be "betrayed" because Black men are not living up to their end of the bargain. Especially for the upward mobility in the African American community. It's been a misconception, about these young men, who are portrayed as monsters. They're human too. Like the saying goes "Hurt people, Hurt people." Institutional racism have played a pivotal role in exacerbating the male and female relationship. And the bulk of it, flourished in the 60's, 70's and 80's. During that time, unemployment rate and incarceration rate grew, causing a large group farther-less kids. What we're dealing with is the trickle down effect. Plus, machismo and the patriarchy culture, have condition young boys, not to express their feelings. Mostly likely; they're suffering from some emotional or sexual damage. It's seemed to be taboo for people in the African American community to seek counseling or psychiatric attention.

I have noticed the things you are talking about and I think it is because the media and Hollywood just keep portraying black woman in this light. Most of the movies and television and even the news portrays black woman as self centered man grubbing baby makers, who are on welfare or depending on family. Just look at some of the popular shows and see for yourself. If the woman in the shows are single, they are usually fighting some other black woman for a man and the man often looks at the women's booty before her brain. They make all the black women have these attitudes and loud and outspoken personalities. Of course I know not all black women are not like this but, most people in society just look at that screen and believe it all. I think Hollywood needs more woman out there like Oprah (then again her movies show the struggles of the poor black woman as well) or Condoleeza to represent them. Don't feel bad. I am half white half gypsy and I get stereotyped by both sides of my family and everyone I meet. very frustrating.

Unfortunately, bits of stereotypes are true. Otherwise, stereotypes would not exist. What happens, though, is people take an entire culture, stamp it with their assumptions of choice, and apply it to every person that culture contains. How sad! As a white male, I certainly wouldn't want everyone thinking that I am arrogant, self-absorbed, redneck, or prejudice. It just seems that a smaller number of people ruin it for the rest of us. And I agree... black women seem to get the brunt of this way of thinking. How unfortunate, and completely inexcusable! All I can say is... hold your head up high, be proud of who you are, accomplish everything God sends your way, and don't judge others despite the fact that others may judge you. It's completely their loss if they want to miss out on the bright, valued human being that you are. God bless!

You don't have to befend yourself! The more you think about crap like this, along with sexism, the worse your outlook on life is going to be.
So compile your sarcastic comments for when you need them, do what you wanna do, act how you wanna act, and be who you wanna be.
Most people are scared shitless of black women. You automatically have an enormous amount of respect going for you. Find out the other side of these stereotypes and if you have to, use them to your advantage.

Some of the black women I know tend to be very outspoken. I think this is good. They don't let people push them around. Some of the most beautiful women I have ever seen were black. But remember true beauty is under the surface and sometime hard for people to see. If you are happy with yourself that is all that counts.

I have not noticed that, but I believe you. Just more bigots and racists and nasty people. I'm sorry that they say these things. I can't imagine why black women would be picked on more than black men, but nevertheless, none of these things should be said about any of the races.
