Not all careers, dreams, hopes, wants, desires -- work out. It's like the stock market. If it just went straight up, we'd all be billionaires. Some things work. Some don't. You deal with your own pains and frustrations. As long as you keep the dream alive, you're okay.

If one of my friends were asking this question I would assume that they are dealing with depression. I would encourage them to seek professional help.

Been there, done that is a bit of a cliche but I am answering your question with empathy (I know how you feel).

I would (and have) pulled my self up by my "bootstraps" and make those hopes and dreams happen.
Everything that has or hasn't happened in your life has only lead you to this point.
Think of it as experience and preparation for the great things that are ahead.
Maybe they won't be exactly what you thought you wanted but if you alter the way you think you will find that those hopes and dreams have either happened in different ways, or just haven't happened yet.
Don't give up now!
What you do or don't do from this point on is in your hands. Only you can change how you FEEL about yourself and your life.
You may not be able to instantaneously change the circumstances of your life but like they say... "Everyday is a new day" and a chance to make those dreams come true.
Learn to like yourself and if you presently don't then work on that first.
Perhaps writing a list of things You'd like to accomplish (not just receive) will help you to focus in on what you CAN DO today.
It may be a Pollyanna way of looking at it but also make another list of the things that you HAVE accomplished.
Persevere in your endevours and surround yourself with only positive people.
Think of yourself and your needs first but also get involved in doing things for other people.
You will find that caring and focusing on your mental health and your ability to release those negative feelings will soon turn into positive thoughts which in turn will eventually make some of those hopes and dreams come true.

Good luck, take care, and write that list!

Keep working on the ones that may still work out and adjust to the fact that the ones that can't work out will never work out. Allow yourself a period of time to grieve, but then find new things to work toward.

Think of the things/people in your life that are important to you and put any hopes and dreams that won't come about in perspective.

I hate to say this, but try not to spend too much time thinking about something that didn't happen. If you spend your mind-time thinking about what you have and what you can work toward for your future it will be better spent. there is definitely a sadness to not seeing your dreams come about, but you can't dwell on it. Life is too short.

You reset what was important to you, make efforts towards that every day, even if it is only a few minutes a day and NEVER give up. Though your goals may seem impossible, they are not! With persistence, anything is possible. I spent 17 1/2 years in prison for a crime I did not commit, I lost EVERYTHING I had worked for, yet I am starting over and one day at a time, I get closer to my dreams. Do not give in nor ever give up.

Make the life that you have work, and be happy it is working. Find joy in the things you have.

My life has had so many changes from the direction I wanted, but sitting around crying about it won't fix a thing. Trust me, right now my life is no where near what I thought it would be at age 19. (I'm 33 now)

Life is not what you plan, but what you experience as you live.

Keep working at it. If your dream was to go to college then do it. Even if it is only one class at night at a time. DO IT.
If you want to start your own business then DO it. Car detailing is a good one, you need cleaning supplies and that is it, you're in business.

It's never to late to do anything. You just may not be a millionaire at it but you can do it.

Don't give up, and never say quit. Because you are only quitting on yourself no one else.

its not the time for you to get that success. do you believe that there is a reason for anything happen? you did not fail, the result of your hard work will come in different way, and maybe it will be much better than you expecting for. Be passion, you will realize it someday, somehow. good luck

Die, disappointed and unfullfilled!

Hopes and dreams are the foundation to form your goals (aims). Without goals, you cannot plan the way you can reach them. However if you have a goal, that you really want to reach you can do it, everyone can!
My reply to your question, "what do you do"? as follows:

Never give up!

Unless you're writing from "the other side" I'm a little confused about why you're using the past tense. It's not over until it's over.
