I just had a professional from GEEK SQUAD come to my home last Saturday. I asked him the same question. He said if it was about 5 yrs ago he would say get a Dell. But now if he had his choice between Dell or Gateway he would pick Gateway. So i also heard that HP & gateway now are far better than DELL...........

For pcs, dell is really a junk machine. HP is really good, try the pavillion seriess or the media center ones, they are extremely good.
For laptops,After seeing the battery blasts for the past couple of weeks, if u buy dell then i guess u will be in hell! So, better go in for a HP.

>Most mass produced (assembly line) machines are absolute junk and come filled with used parts and useless proprietary software that will suck up the memory and cause the user unending (and unnecessary) "glitches". Better to buy one from a reputable custom builder.
That way you will get what you want and need in a computer to match your needs and/or desires and not have to pay for crap you don't have any use for.. As an added bonus, if you encounter any problems with the computer you can talk (in your native language) to the person who built it instead of some 75 cents-per-hour "technician" in a third world country who's knowledge of your machine consists of reading from a script written by Dell's (or gateway's or HP. etc.'s) marketing department.<

I have an hp and it is better bc it has alot of memory and it is great for my school work and it holds alot more memory then dell. And it is designed to do music and distance learning and whole lot more. My brother can do his death metal on it and in order to do that on a computer needs alot of memory and Very good hardware too. it mine comes with it so i would go with an hp. mine that i have is called Microsoft windows xp meida center edition 2005 and the amp has 3800+ and the memory has 1.0gb and the hard drive has 250gb oh and i have to cd it can burn them as well too and it has to dvd drives E F and the port is on the front and back so i do not have to fuss going to the back of the comp for the ports.
well hope this helps
Do Not get an EMACHINE THEY REALLY SUCK i had one and it kept breaking on me all the time. I never had a problem with my hp comp.

Hey I bought a dell laptop last week! No joke! Its awesome because what it comes with would come out to so much more $ with any other company! Intel core duo 2! pretty cool everyone agrees with Dell! Awesome! One thing the technical support, the agents are all the way in India! Pretty weird!

Always Dell - they have never let me down.
My oldest Dell PC is 8 years old (Laptop) and the one I'm working on now is 6 (Desktop) and both of them are still working marvellously well, considering that before that I used to have to change them every three years (Packard Bell, Nec, they just died on me).
In fact, I trust them so much I just bought a third Dell (Laptop. Not that the old one broke down, It just weighs a lot)

Dell is vastly better than HP, but I'd consider IBM (now Lenovo) or Mac before I thought about either of those 2. Whoever told you HP is better than Dell is delusional, foolish, or ignorant.

HP., w/o a doubt. I've had 3 old ones, & 2 were still working when I gave them away. (My current one is also OK, in spite of my trying to fix stuff the wrong way =)
I"ve also been told by lots of people dell is junk.
