Excessive hair loss or unusual hair thinning can be a symptom of a disease, and needs prompt professional medical diagnosis. This COULD, but probably is unlikely, be alopecia. The main characteristics of alopecia are that the hair loss often occurs abruptly and tends to be patchy. If you really are losing A LOT of hair at one time, and it is resulting in bald spots, see a Doctor.

could be ! do you you take vitimans that have an high level of vitiman E or just plain vitiman E soft gel pills? If you have it take it everyday&night. Stop washing your hair everytime you shower! thats not good.Do not spray lots of holding spray or spritz either.and its better to let your hair air dry than to blow dry all the time! thats not healthy for your hair.also dont brush your so hard, use a soft brush and spray just alittle oil sheen on it, if you just have to blow dry then TURN the blwer on low to medium hold not to close , because to much heat can break your hair as well. Good luck to beautiful hair.

It's perfectly normal to lose up to 200 hairs a day, and when you hair is long, that looks like a hell of a lot. Hormone imbalances can also cause hair loss.

My sister started losing her hair like you after she had a knee replacement and was on coumadin (blood thinner). The dr told her that she should stop losing hair after she stopped the medication. It could also be a hormone problem. Make a dr's appt. Good luck to you.

i think it's the hormones. i've been loosing hair also by the handful. it began when i'm pregnant then after giving birth then now i'm taking the pill, it never stopped. well, i have long hair, so maybe it isn't that much.
also when you shower and using warm/hot water it may cause your hair to fall and when you are using conditioner or shampoo that is too harsh. my hair fall even more when i use conditioner.

stress...a bad hairbrush...does thinning hair run in your family?...lack of calcium...and, least significant of all, chemical damage from a perm or other chemicals (especially mixed with too much sunlight)
