Look it up. The bracero program was a guest worker program in the 1950s. Mexican farm workers were given a work permit to work in the U.S. for a specified time. I know it was common practice in California, but as far as I know it could be anywhere in the U.S. After the bracero program was discontinued, more Mexicans started coming to the US illegally to work. Some people are suggesting we should reinstate something like it so the government knows who is crossing the border.
