I can't say it scares me. I'm sure the last generation thought the same thing about us and probably still do. However, I have worked in a nursing home for severla years and continue to be suprised by the staff that works there. Almost everyone who answered this post before me probably hasnt seen the inside of a nursing home. Let me give you some insight, most of the staff are VERY kind, loving, and generous to their patients. Most of the patients in the nursing homes should be mad at their children and own families more than the staff of the nursing home. Most of them only see their families once every month to a couple of months. Many of the staff at the facilities become as close as any family to these residents. At Christmas the staff buy presents for them with their own money, go on outings with them without being paid so the residents can have enough staff to go see christmas lights - holiday shows - or even take a hayride through the snow, etc.. Not all staff are like this, some can't spend this extra time and money on the residents because of their own families, etc... But many of the staff put in that extra care.
The government has made is very hard for a facility to retain bad employees. They are required to do background checks, persistent performance reviews, and the state and federal surveyors look at facilities with a fine tooth comb to make sure residents are being taken care of.
Would I want to go to a nursing home? NO. Is it because of how I will be treated by the staff? NO. Does it have to do with me being a private person and not wanting to live in such a social atmosphere? YES. Will I cahnge my mind about entering a nursing home later in my life? MAYBE. Who knows how I will feel about going into a nirsing home when I'm 30 years older than I am now.
Just remember, it takes a certain kind of person to work in a nursing home. Most people working in a nursing home make less money than someone that works at the local Wal-Mart.

In a way it does. Todays kids growing up are getting too many things handed to them & not having to earn it? They don't appreciate things as much as the past generations that have had to work hard to earn what they got? Most of them have never had to experience holding a loved ones hand as they take their last breath, as I had to with my mother (God Bless Her), at the age of 64! Things like that will humble the hardest of people! It is a scary thought at times?

I think the current world leaders are doing a pretty good job of destroying society as it is. The younger generation might not get a chance.

That's why we got to take care of ourselves right now, so when the time comes, we can afford better care and not wind up in nursing homes!

maximum human beings do greater for their mom and dad than you think of. only because of the fact elderly human beings each so often bypass to the mall with the help of themselves does not propose they're ignored with the help of their families. a lot of them are chuffed to have the means to bypass out on my own. as an occasion, my grandmother is only approximately seventy 9 years previous and nonetheless lives with the help of herself. thankfully she's nonetheless very healthful and says she would not prefer to stay in a retirement dwelling house. She does her own chores, yet whilst she desires help she is acquainted with that we are chuffed to do in spite of she asks. that's significant to her that she would be in a position to nonetheless be self sufficient. it is not continually achievable for previous human beings to stay with their toddlers, yet that would not unavoidably propose that we as a rustic do not know or care approximately them. that's genuine that some human beings positioned their mom and dad in nursing residences, yet that's in many situations because of the fact they have actual or psychological themes that require greater care than toddlers grants. that's unhappy, yet each so often it fairly is the main suitable decision. i think of between the biggest adjustments between the U.S. and India is that we've get entry to to magnificent healthcare that keeps human beings alive longer, each so often so long it fairly is turns into impossible to guard them at dwelling house. We even have the factors to make certain that the elderly get the scientific interest they like, that could propose putting them in a nursing dwelling house. i don't think of that's extremely a be counted of having critically diverse cultural perspectives on elder care, that's oftentimes an financial undertaking.
