Kids with autism need to have warnings when transitioning from one thing to another. Let him know five minutes before it's time to go back to class, and count down each minute for him. This gives him time to prepare for the change. While in the classroom, over-stimulation is the biggest problem for a child with autism. If possible, keep the lights low, or provide him with a light at his desk, that has a regular light bulb. Flourescent lighting can be a problem. Understand that he sees the world differently from other kids, and be as flexible as possible in dealing with him.

As a long term single parent of a child with High Functioning Autism -- you need to provide 10 minute transition warnings EACH and every day -- and be consistent about it -- especially with the playground coming before the art time.

Children with Autism like the Art -- it allows them to be creative in their own world, but THEY DO NEED the transition warning -- at the SAME TIME each and every day.

The emphasis here is on transition -- use the child's classroom aide as your helper in this transition time.

I also made sure that my own child (Asperger's Syndrome) was allowed 5 minutes before the next class start to begin the walk back to the classroom, to put up their coat/whatever, and to get their supplies and sit down PRIOR to the mad rush of the other students doing the same -- because that upset my child and she had difficulty if she did not transition first to the new activity.

I relate on your question. the position I stay in case you stayed in gymnastics and confirmed skills, the stress began to hitch a crew. My daughter also took it from an early age. at the same time as she changed into 5 i began asking mum and dad of older youthful toddlers about it. One mom had an 8 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous and she or he suggested her time table changed into 20 hours per week. I only ought to no longer see allowing that with my daughter. on the time she also did ice skating so I gave her the alternative between both, and she or he chosen ice skating. Now she herself is 8 and an identical stress is there to skate many hours per week. in spite of the indisputable fact that, what's diverse is that she's no longer on a crew so as that provides us so a lot extra freedom. it really is a man or woman attempt in the route of her own own aims. So contained in the fall at the same time as she has extra college paintings we flow all the way down to three-4 hours per week, and we are able to install extra hours in wintry climate at the same time as she will be able to't play outdoors besides. yet she ought to skate each day earlier college and there are those who try this. My priorities are to grant her existence stability at this age. She would skate each day if I gave her the alternative. i don't think of which will be healthful or perfect for her at this age. sure, you should pay interest on your toddlers in the experience that they love an pastime yet you nevertheless must be the make sure and make a judgment call about what's too a lot - and only because human beings do it would not make it the right selection on your baby.

I am not sure if you are a teacher, but according to federal special education laws called IDEA, the child is suppose to have a teacher who is 'qualified and trained' in knowing how to handle the child and how to help with the problems the child has.
Even though I know that most schools don't hire teachers like this. And I think that most teachers don't even know this is the law.
