My boyfriend has always known that I've wanted a puppy. He has also always known that I think that it would be a REALLY sweet present from a boyfriend to a girlfriend. ( I've seen it happen on TV and told him that I've always wanted that to happen to me) Well, a few days ago he went to a guy that was giving a puppy away to anyone who wanted it. So, he went and got it FOR HIM AND HIS FAMILY! I was/am so mad at him for that. He didn't even consider that I've been wanting my own dog for months, and was even planning on adopting one from the Humane Society (long before he had the chance to have one). Am I just being jealous or do I have a real argument here? What do you think I should do about this?

I know that having a puppy is a HUGE commitment, and considered everything about it already.

Plus, all his family does with it most of the time is put it in its own room and leave it there all day until after 8 hrs of work/school. He knew that I had more resources and time for it than they did.

seems pretty selfish of him considering you've wanted one ... but sometimes giving puppies means something more in a relationship, it's best to pick your own dog so that when you break up with him ... the dog will be just yours and won't remind you of him!!

Are you aware of any expectations you might have had that may have clouded your judgment? Just because you wanted a boyfriend to give you a puppy doesn't make it so. Do you think your boyfriend was being malicious? Or maybe he just adopted a surefire reason for you to spend more time at his house? At any rate, you'll never know until you ask. So ask, and be careful not to attack him when you talk to him. There is no reason he should feel bad for adopting a puppy. And think, if you adopt one now too, your puppies will grow up together. What a cute family!

Yes, you are being jealous. Have you thought about him or his family wanting a puppy also? of course family must come first, not a girlfriend nor bestfriend.
I think you should just buy or adopt your own puppy. Buying a puppy could be expensive, maybe he doesn't have the money for that. But if you do, get it yourself and stop being so demanding.

I don't think your B/F is very considerate of your feelings. If you want a puppy go adopt one. If you want a b/f to give you a puppy break up with the present one and start looking for a new b/f.

I think that you should just go get your puppy, just make sure you are getting it for the right reasons, remember this is a long time commitment.
