I would imagine that it is easier to see their prey when they are not staring into a bright sky.

Spiders face down because it is the most tactical position, most things that get in their web come from below, so they have a better view of prey, and a better reaction time if they were watching it before it hit the web.

Its more comfortable for the spider to face downwards. Its like sitting on your knees as opposed to standing up.
