I was watching smart, articulate multi-millionaire golfers spit at the Ryder Cup last weekend. I grew up in sports - including stuff like Rugger, cross-country, Field Hockey, etc. and I never spat on the ground in my entire life - what is with these people ?

Because some of them chew tobacco and while they are playing, they can't carry a spitting can around.

LoL ive played for 15 yrs and if I dont have sunflower seeds in my mouth I have either dip or chew...baseball players are very superstitious so if you do it once and it works you'll forever do it...and then you pick up the habit outside the game...

collect a good amount of saliva just before your front teeth and above the tip portion to mid portion of your tongue...then with a sudden force press that portion of your tongue toward you front teeth pressuring the saliva out while making a small gap between your upper and lower front teeth with your mouth in semi-smiling position.
