I don't think it takes too long if you took enough of it... be careful though... my mom had a miscarriage due to that stuff.

I did this with my third child.

If you are certain you want to try it, the most important thing is to hear from your doctor that your cervix is at least 50% effaced (the thinning of the cervix, not the later dialating) for this to possibly work. If your cervix is not effaced then it can't dialate when the castor oil kicks in. Then you're stuck w/ a baby trying to get out when it just can't happen. The baby could have it's first bowel movement inside the womb and then he/she would consume it, which obviously is not a good thing.

I used an entire 4oz bottle of the stuff and mixed it really well into a chocolate milkshake. There was some funky taste, but i bought and extra smaller shake to "chase" the spiked milkshake...lol. It helped.

I did this at around 9pm and when I woke up the next morning, I stood up and ....yep...water broke. I still had a week to go, but my doc had told me I was 70% effaced & told me my son was around 7 lbs so I went for it.

You should know too that my first two kids I had to have my water broke by my doctor after many hours of non-progressing labor, so I was impressed w/ this castor oil thing.

It depends on how much castor oil you take.I took a four oz. bottle at once and within 5 hours i was in labor.All the castor oil really does is irritate your digestive track which rubs against your uterus causing contractions.You really should try walking along with taking the castor oil,,just stay near a bathroom! Sex is also very good for stimulating labor.Semen contains prostiglandins which is a hormone that triggers labor. I hope this in some way helps you. Castor oil is typically NOT recommended to be taken while pregnant unless your doctor says otherwise. It can make you sick, you'll get diarrhea instead of going into labor. Your best bet to get labor started is to have sex, take walks, and wait. Semen has prostaglandins in it that can help labor along, walking or standing uses gravity as a helper, and above all, baby will show up when they're ready to. Please don't take castor oil unless your ob/gyn says it's safe and then ask them how much you should take.

castor oil will not start labor or help it, it can actually make things worse. Things will happen when the baby is ready trust me I know this from experience

I think it depends on you and the baby. I have talked to 3 people who drank it and it didn't even work. They said it just made them sick and miserable. But I have a friend who drank it and 7 hours later she gave birth, so I don't think there is any way to tell. I've been considering drinking some as well, but with my luck it would probably just make me sick! lol Please let me know if you do it if it works for you or not! Good luck!

Please don't do that. It doesn't really work. Just causes horrible diarrhea. And in the even that by some stroke of luck you would go into labor, you'd have horrible diarrhea the whole time you're strapped down to a bed trying to have this baby. Please, on behalf of all the nurses in the world, don't do it.

DONT do that
it can make you and your baby sick,my doc. told me it will cause your baby to have his first bowel movment and you dont want that if it isnt nessesary,try some more natural methods first

dont use it !!!!it will mack the baby and you sick!!!! if you relly wont to go in to labor get up and clean your house from top to bottum all the moveing will help you go in to labor........GOOD LUCK and GOD BLESS
