Sanaa:

Everyone has given you very good suggestions. The examiner will check the car you will be using to make sure that the turn indicators and brake lights are operating properly. Make sure they do. They won't allow you to take the test if your car is not 'street legal'.

On streets with more than one lane in each direction, if you are asked to make a right hand turn you MUST end the turn in the right hand lane, and if you are asked to make a left hand turn you may end in any lane that is available to you.

Wear your seat belt any time the car is moving, and "Good Luck".

Pilgrim gives you good advice. Take it.

Turn off the radio/cd player/cell phone/any distractions and concentrate on driving.

When at an unregulated (no stop signs) intersection, slow to 15 MPH and look both ways before entering the intersection.

When you encounter a blinking red light, or a dead traffic signal, treat it as a stop sign.

ALWAYS come to a complete stop (3 seconds), at a regulated intersection, before turning right. Not doing so, known as the "California Stop", has been the ruin of many a license applicant.

Even if the light is red, yield to oncoming traffic when turning left.

When turning left, advance to the center of the intersection, and halt. Turn when oncoming traffic indicates it is safe. It is all in the timing. If you think that you can make a left turn safely before the oncoming car can hit you, you are most likely wrong. Wait until it passes to make the turn. You will never be penalized for caution.

Do NOT be intimidated by other drivers.

Do NOT retaliate.

Drive with courtesy and caution. Drive defensively. Remember: not everyone on the road is a good a driver as you are. Cut them some slack (3 deep breaths).

Give a "Thanks!" wave to the driver that just gave you a break. He/She appreciates it.

Remember that driving in L.A,like Spandex,is a privilege, not a right.

Addendum: Allow at least 2 car lengths (12 feet) between you and the car behind you when you make a lane change, and ALWAYS use your blinkers. It is considered rude, and can lead to ugly confrontations, if you Cut Somebody Off

When you pull up behind the car ahead of you at a red light, or anytime, be sure you can see the bottom of the rear tires.

This gives you the space you need to get out from behind him in case a car up ahead stalls.

This isn't in the vehicle code, and it's not one of the written test questions. Only one driver in 100 knows this or practices it, and they'll almost always give you a passing score if you do this.

Always signal lane changes and turns, always check mirrors AND TURN YOUR HEAD to look before changing lanes.

Turn your cell phone off so you don't answer it out of habit, that'll flunk you in a New York second.

Don't small talk with the test person, concentrate on your driving.

And remember, you've already passed the written test, so what they're looking for is someone who drives safely.

In general, remember to put your rear view mirrors (before the inspector shows up) all the way down so you can see the tire and the curb, since you don't know which side you will be parallel parking, do it to both mirrors. Works like a charm, act like you can see normally through your mirrors, there is no traffic anyways. But when that parking comes: remember that those mirrors are your secret weapon!!!

Good Luck.

Drive the local streets around the DMV, learn to do are u-turn turn around, so get a smaller car. they get mad if the ask for a u-turn turnaround and you turn it into a three-point-turn as your car is too big.

And don't get nervous

they watch you..use your blinkers..stop at before the line *at stop signs/stop lights* look both ways before entering a intersection (wether you have the right of way or not..still LOOK) they watch your speed..they test you on backing up..make sure you actually look back not use your mirrors.

i think thats all i remeber
