I believe raising your children to believe in a God (any God) is terrible. To me the Bible is a mythological subject just like Zeus, Orion and many of the other religious figures out there today or of the past. I could go into great detail on how I have come to this conclusion but unfortunately I do not have six hours to type out the full essay. Also another lie I believe is terrible is tell children there is a Santa Clause or a Tooth Fairy. Would christmas be any less fun if they knew the true story behind Santa Clause and that people who really cared about them gave them those wonderful gifts? As for the tooth fairy... what is the point again? By the time a child starts losing their teeth they are too old to believe in Santa Clause so you lie to them and tell them about the tooth fairy? It makes no sense to me. People please be truthful to your children, they will respect you for it.

My parents have a wonderful marriage that appeared to be a piece of cake. I just assumed that my marriage would be just as great. Wrong! The hard work, hard times and lack of money was well hid from me as I grew up in a very loving home. I had to find out for myself that life is a little bit tougher than I had been led to believe. :)

That dinosaurs were part of a plot from Scientists to make the theory of evolution more realistic. I was told the dinosaur bones were fake and made up. Imagine how I felt at the Museum of Natural History as an adult.

Although I wasn' t raise to beleive in Santa Clause, the Easter bunny, or the tooth fairy. I think they're lies. I did teach my children that they are pretend beings & we can play the roles. I've heard too many horror stories about kids who were devistated to learn those characters didn't exist. I wanted to establish trust with my children, so I felt lying to them about it would make them lose trust in me. But we did play the part of getting gifts from Santa, the Easter bunny, or tooth fairy the children knew exactly where they came from. Beside why would Santa or the others treat some children better than others. That said, I don't condem anyone who chooses to teach it to their children. I just had to let my children know not to tell the other kids, because that's how other parents teach their children. I treated it like playing other pretend games like dress up. playing house with dolls & Barbie dolls.

That my stepfather was my real father -- I did not find out until my mother died and the rest of the family figured I did not belong because they never really liked me (and they wanted my share of the small amount of money) . . . is that ugly or what?

That if I were to swallow a watermelon seed, vines would start growing out of my ears. I wouldn't eat watermelon until my early 20's just because of that fear.
