If they think it's good product and it's something they will use, I don't think they are sellouts.

The Rolling Stones were always playing for major corporations. I think the purpose of most bands is getting paid to do what they love to do. I think sell outs are those that change their message or style for a buck. For instance a rock band going R&B just because R&B artists were making more money that year.

I hate it when a good song becomes a jingle. But that is the property of the artist and I think they have the right to use it as they wish. I do think it lowers the value of all good music. Who knows if the next great love song will be used to sell laxative?

Not necessarily...

A lot of Beatles songs are used in commercials but the (remaining) members of the band have no control over that - Michael Jackson & Sony Corp own the rights to their catalog.

Absolutely, Yes!!! I can't stand it when artists ruin the memory of their songs by allowing them to be used in television commercials.
