Mexico. Really.

The cost of living will strech your retirment money and you can live like royalty in Mexico. Think about getting maids, buttlers, & cooks ... so dreamy. Many are doing this.

Go to where the budgets are small, and the bugs are smaller.

If finances are an issue, then migrate from the higher cost and higher paying areas, to lower cost areas. This gets you the higher pension, based on salary, and applies it to the lower cost area.

The only problem is that in the lowest cost areas, you eventually have to go outside.

Explore the areas in different seasons. Try MO. and a motor home. Houses are cheap, and you can travel by motorhome for a few months a year. Consider the cheaper house to be a "high-priced storage shed" during the coldest three months while you cruise the Western states, like AZ and CA.
