many college professors use profanity, but they shouldn't be making threats to students. if you are sure they are making serious threats, and not just joking, you should talk to the department chair or Dean who would be in charge of the professor.

Tell him his outbursts, complaining, and disruptive behavior are bothering other students, and other students are complaining about him, and want him out of the class. (the other students already know this, and will agree with you; don't worry about them). Say it right in front of everybody. Make it clear you are speaking only to him and not the rest of the class. That should work. If it doesn't, then go to the Dean of Students and inform him of this and he will probably be forced to drop the class. Make sure you have some documentation in hand when you visit the dean. Hell, bring in a video camera and set it up in class, and point it right at him, and RUN it the entire class for a couple classes; he'll probably get the point. Also ask what other professors do in similar situations, especially older, more experienced professors. You're the professor, and I'm sure you're smarter than he is. Use your smarts and outsmart him. You'll figure out a way. Don't fall into the traps this student is setting for you. Simply tell him to wait until the end of the class if he has any further comments or questions. This happens all the time in high school, but not very often in college. When it does (IN COLLEGE, not in hs) confront the little b@stards and come right out and tell them to act right or LEAVE. Note about answer above: I would NOT threaten to lower his grade; and I certainly would NOT "stoop to his level" so that he can understand. In HS, I basically would just stop talking completely and stare at the person until they stopped--that usually worked. You have to be mean sometimes. Embarrassment works wonders, but it can backfire, as the student might embarass you back, and then you have stooped to his level. Just stop and stare, and don't play his game. You're gonna have to ignore some of it, but not to the point where it disrupts other students. That's the line. Set it. Complaints about homework and assignments??? Oh my, just tell him that's the requirements, and if he doesn't like. it to take another class. If he shoots back "but this is my major!", then tell him maybe he's in the wrong major. Heck, tell him he's in the wrong school, tell him high school is over.

Profanity is more commonplace than it should be, but threats are another matter. Keep in mind no students = no jobs for everyone working at the college. It is your RIGHT to make known valid complaints, but is most effective to go through the proper channels. Make an appointment with the Chair of the department first. If there is not an acceptable response to your concerns, then take it to the Dean of the School. If it is happening to more than one student, then banding together makes a stronger argument when approaching the Chair. Stay professional and unemotional in your approach.

Talk to the Dean of Students and/or the professor's department head. If you've had a problem with the person, chances are someone else has, too.

Document each incident -- time, place, witnesses (if any), comments and actions made by the professor, etc.
Include as much detail as possible about what happened.

The more evidence you can collect, the better your chances will be of having the situation resolved in your favor.

Need more complete information about the entire situation and BOTH sides of the story to determine that. What was the context? Why did the teacher curse and threaten? What did the student do? Aren't all college students at least 18 years old? (etc... need details)

it is never right for a teacher to use profanity and threats towards you. it doesn't matter if you are a college student, grad student, or anything else. no one ever should use threats and profanity towards you. so, yes, you should complain!

Its not right. Instructors are suppose to be intelligent enough and education well so as not to have to resort to profanityl. If there is another incident, report it immediately. You're paying to go to school and you're not there to be verbally abused.

Take a tape recorder to class and get it on tape. You can almost bet the "teacher' will denigh the incident or say you mis-understood.

The teacher may feel that he is not getting through to the students and that they all do not take him seriously. He thinks he is above his class intellectually and is probably in the wrong job.

He is pissed off at the youth of the times and is pissed off he has to be there.

this teacher is wrong to use this language and has a anger management problem ...you can complain to the department head...if she is the head , go over her head and stand your ground. the teacher is supposed to set the standard and she is not able to control herself...she needs to be corrected on this behavior.............
