I certainly do.....Nirvana were huge everywhere and now they are legend..Oasis was never that big in America (and it is a shame cuz they have crafted many of the best songs in the last 12 years) even with that Oasis is HUGE anywhere else and in Britain they are as big as the Beatles!!!! (i know it is a little awkward but that is a fact if not..read british magazones and you´ll see).....I don´t know there are so many bands but I think that these 2 bands really shaped rock and rolll in the 90´s...What do you think?

First of all, Nirvana was good but not great, Kurts voice wasn't that good nor were the lyrics to his songs that he actually wrote. The real driving force behind that band was David Groehl. Sorry to all Kurt fans, I know he was a martyr for your version of rock and roll, but I still think for grunge I'd pick Alice in Chains. At least most of the time you could understand what he's saying. I'd aso pick Smashing Pumpkins over Nirvana too......
As for Oasis, nah, they were alright, the only thing they had in common with the Beatles is the fighting, really. But to be honest they don't have songs that make sense. Tell me what Wonderwall is all about and I'll give you a cookie, because I still don't know. Maybe a wanna be Pink Floyd, I don't know.
Oh, on one more note, enough about the over hyped Beatles
already. Yes, we know they had great songs but there were better bands than them. Maybe not as rememberd, but better bands indeed. I think for bands better than them: The Who, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Cream, The Yardbird, The Birds, The Eagles, and The Mammas and the Pappas.

I'm a fan of both bands but I'm an American so I have to go with Nirvana. Oasis are for the English in my opinion but their songs are epic.

Definately Nirvana, but I'd throw out Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Metallica, or Green Day rather than Oasis. Then again, I live state side.

Aside: Is it sad that I've never really cared about Nirvana, even though that's "My" generation?

understand this, if nothing else -

NO band in the 90s, 80s, 70s, 60s, 50s, etc have compared to the beatles on any level.

that whole "oasis is the next beatles" was merely media hype generated by sony (a huge, powerful corporate beast) to sell tons of records - and it worked.

if you haven't yet truly discovered the beatles or their earthshaking, global shift of pop culture and music, you owe that to yourself. you cannot consider yourself a music connoiseur without a basic understanding of them...

biggest band of the 90s? hard to say - there's a lot of criteria...

most influential? had to be nirvana...that's an easy one.

Pearl Jam was always much more popular (although not better) than Nirvana and Oasis. REM and Third Eye Blind were also quite popular. The Stones were much more meaningful than the Beatles, although less popular.
