The average life span of a sperm cell is from 24- 72 hours right after ejaculation once it is inside the vagina. However, it may stay in the reproductive canal for a week, the most. During menstruation, the uterus has been cleaned up because no fertilization took place before it. So, this is the perfect time to have sex and before menstruation also. However, because of the lifespan of the sperm, if you're having sex on the last day of your menstruation, and you're having a regular period at smaller intervals, then you could be at risk for getting pregnant. Try checking out your usual menstruation pattern so you may know. The only fixed interval is the ovulation period up to menstruation which is 2 weeks.

You most definately could be pregnant. You can be ovulating at that time which would leave the door wide open for those little guys to get in. You would not be having any kind of spotting or anything this soon though. The spotting is probably just because you had sex while you were on your period. I would definately get a pregnancy test if you are even a day late for your period next month though, and be sure you treat your body as if you are pregnant until you find out for sure. You don't want to take a chance on taking any kind of medications that would harm the baby.

Not likely. Ovulation usually occurs midway in the menstrual cycle, which would be day 14 on a 28-day cycle. So theoretically, I think you're safe. The spotting could just be some residual blood from your period.
If you are worried about getting pregnant, you should not have unprotected sex.
