It is what you put into it. It is filled of joys of ownership. Unlike renting if your water heater goes out you foot the bill. If you make your home nice and upgrade you will usually see the $$ when it is time to sell. No more anoying upstairs neighboors like an appartment and people take more pride in your neighboorhood and make the place real nice when you buy..
Owenership is a sense of pride, it is the American dream. There are many dollars spent in utilities, upgrades and up keep. However it is yours and that is a great feeling..

The good that comes with owning a home, is that you build up equity, You can have pets, as many as you want.(unless there is an ordinance). You can fix it up the way you like. You can have as big a one as you can afford.
It is yours!
the downside is Taxes, insurance, ordinances, upkeep( never ending).
of course if you rent, you pay the owners taxes +. If you rent you should still have renters insurance!
If you rent , you have to follow the landlords rules, and sometimes he has no choice , he has to follow ordinances.
And , sometimes you can not get the landlord to make any repairs or upkeep.
Remember after 20 years, you may own that house free and clear and after 20 years of renting all you have is a pile of rent receipts, and you still have too continue renting and piling up more receipts.

There's always something to fix, clean up, paint, update, remove, install, flush, etc., etc., etc. And then if you have a wife on top of it with her "honey do" list you feel like you come home to go to your second job. Actually, that's an exaggeration, but there is a lot of upkeep, but it is about the only sure way to make a little money and build some equity that you can use for other things. I'm 100 percent in favor of it.

I like being a homeowner so I can feel free to do the things I want to my place. We like to upgrade and make lots of changes for our own pleasure that we wouldn't be able to do as renters. We like being able to have pets without asking a landlord if we can or even having to pay alot to have a pet. I like to garden and landscape and can do whatever I want in that regard.

it is great...the only drawback is that you have no landlord to call when something needs repair but the pro's outweigh the con's
with owning you can landscape the yard and decorate the inside the way you want...have all the animals you want within the laws of your city/state
also the money you pay for the mortgage is going towards what you will eventually own free and clear instead of someone who may suddenly decide to sell making you have to move...also with owning it can be your last move unlike with renting
just imagine living somewhere and having to ask permission to do something...now imagine living somewhere that you can do things as you want....that is the joy of home ownership....you are the boss

Increadible responsiblity. I inhearited a home from my dad who died in January. Its one big bill. Taxes, Upkeep, insurance, making never ending repairs. I had to put a roof on. My water is leaking now behind the washer and its my baby to figure out how to take care of it. Very expensive.
I have to mow the lawn at least 2 times a week in the warm months. The lawn mower repairs about bankrupted me this year.
Here I ****** and I dont even have a house payment. I should be happy.

It's something different for everyone I guess, but for me it is like a plant in the soil, someplace to put your roots, raise your family, have pets. Take pride in, make memories in. There is as much or as little work as you want. Some people are never finished fixing or changing their homes while others move in and live the way it is until they are ready to sell.
