Sure it's special, your about to become a teenager! It's not usually a big celebration, like the 16th in American culture, or the 15th in the Mexican culture. No reason why you can't make it one, if you want.
If you are Jewish, it is a big deal, girls do Bat Miztvah [please excuse my non-Jewish spelling and knowledge], get up in front of the congregation and read, just as the boys do. They get a party and presents.
My friends and I made a big deal out of it, slumber parties, big birthday parties, girls had parties that had never had a party before.
So enjoy your 13th!
