The ones that have it one the right do so either because: they were made in countries that have steering wheels on the right. Or, in the case of BMW, it's a safety feature. BMW says if your car ran out of gas on the freeway, you shouldn't be standing next to traffic to fill it up.
The others like it one the left because most drivers can more easily align their car with the pump.

actually, in most cars the gas tank is in the center, underneath the vehicle. The gas cap and fill pipes are usually designed around the suspension system, drive train, and frame of the vehicle. There may be other reasons as to which side they chose to place it if there is space available on both sides, but that is up to the manufacturer.

For the convenience of the manufacture when the car was designed. For example you do not want the gas tank setting on top the muffler.

The answer to this is quite simple. The left hand side tanks are for left hand people and vice versa. So if yours is on the wrong side i suggest you get rid of it or learn to write with the proper hand for your cars configuration. This can lead to birth defects if not handled imediatly!

So in case you could not locate this kind, examine out some autos of each type to examine which maker places the gasoline door on which area. Then search for motor vehicle possibilities through type and the make sure must be close.
