It means I can't have my husband and a boyfriend on the side. I have to choose one or the other. I think I'll keep my husband.

If you are eating your cake, it will be finally gone, and then you cannot have that piece anymore. You can't "Have" it and "eat" it too, because, as you eat it, it is no longer whole. Thus, as you are eating it, you can't continue to have a full piece.
