First off...WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN ?????
Its called the Mood ring and it came out in the seventies. Your body temperature fluctuates with your mood. The rings stone reacts to minor changes in body heat and changes colours. Much like the way that copper changes colour when a flame is applied to it.

Yep, mood rings are what they're called.
They don't respond well to our emotions because they are affected by factors such as ambient temperature and humidity. If you went for a long run, you would probably find that your mood ring had changed colour... but only because your body heated up. Also, rubbing them against your skin, putting them under hot or cold water would make them change colour.

There is a heat sensitive chemical in the ring that changes color depending on the color of your hand. You can also try this out by putting the ring under hot and col water.

it's a mood ring~the respond to our body heat and the temperature around us.
typically:
*~black (cold temperature) means you are a cold and aloof person,
*~blue (warm temperature) means that you are a warm, loving (maybe amourous) person.
there is a whole spectrum of colors in between, but i can't remember exactly which color means what.
it is more of a novelty; nothing that you should rely on to actually determine someones mood or affect (not safely or reliably, anyway).

It definitely responds to body heat, much like the forehead and fish tank thermometers.

I think it is because the temperature in your body changes with different moods. Try putting it in ice and see what color it changes to, then put it in something warm. You could also find out in goggle or ask.com.
I'm pretty sure it's temperature though!

Body heat's the key to the ring changing it's colour.
Apparently our bodies get warmer as we get angry/fustrated, and cooler when we get moody/shocked.
