An army medic turned himself in Tuesday to face a possible court-martial because he could "not live with being a participant of war anymore". He fought the Pentagon for years to become a conscientious objector but lost. He served a year in Tikrit as a combat medic. Prior to his second tour he left his base until he turned himself in. He says his 'military experience' changed his mind.
"I have come to believe that it is wrong to destroy life; that it is wrong to use war' that it is immoral, & I can no longer go down this path." he said."Its the right thing to do. I'm not a deserter or a coward." It's something I can live with (possibility of court martial & jail time). "What I can't live with is being a participant of war anymore" he said.
We will wait and see w/this man.

In the interin, I can sympathize with him reference Iraq. It is a death trap. and no. I'm not a coward. I'm younger than Bush daughters. They need to enlist. If they did I mght reconsider.
I mean that

Say Fatboy! this is getting to be a habit. The POINT is that the Pentagon is always looking for volunteers. And the POINT is that the Bush daughters are just as near a recruiting station as I am. And the POINT is that DADDY Bush is always heralding all of our war heroes. And the POINT is that as the president, knowing how much he LOVES all of our troops, that the best way to show that is to encourage his daughters to do their duty also.
Got that?
oh and yes, if I were on board, I would be in charge of YOUR unit, not You over ME.

Having already served one tour in Iraq he cannot be called a coward. War can be a horrifying thing even to a trained soldier. Until the horrors actually touch you, you are guided by a sense of purpose, a sense of what is right. I'd say given that he is a medic he has been touched many times and every man has a breaking point where he has to question the point of it all.

Coward................NO and neither is he a hero. However he knew when he enlisted that there was a chance to got to war. I am glad that he as a medic helped many who were injured in the war but that does not get him out of being sent back.
If the only way you would enlist is if someone elses daughters did then as a VET. I would not want you in my squad or anywhere near me in battle.

He's a COWARD! He enlisted in the Army knowing that America was already at war with Iraq. The idiot should've thought twice before making his decision. He's deserving of solitary confinement for TWO years as the penalty for AWOL states. BUT, the military will of course cave in to his legal fight and probably just slap him on the wrist and give him a dishonorable discharge.

We should ship him back to Mexico where he came from!

I am willing to call him a conscientious objector, but that does not relieve him of responsibilty to follow orders once he has accepted a commission.
