I haven't had my period since I had my baby, which was about 3 months ago. Could I be pregnant or is the breast feeding affecting it?

I breast fed 3 for about 18 months each. It kept me from periods for the entire time. Since it affects many people that way but not everyone you should still be careful because you can get pregnant. With one of my children the first sign that I was pregnant with the next child was that the baby suddenly refused to nurse. The pregnancy hormones change something in the breast milk and the baby will usually stop nursing. No periods for over 2 years at a time (counting the pregnancy 9 months) was wonderful.

You may not get your period if you are breastfeeding. I breastfeed my daughter for a year and never had a period. I finally started again a couple of months after I stopped breastfeeding. However, breastfeeding is not an effective form of birth control. You can still ovulate and become pregnant, even though you don't have a period. If you think you might be take a test.

Many women do not have any period for 6 months or more after giving birth, breastfeeding increases the chances that you will not have one and it may offer some protection against pregnancy, but doctors do not agree on this point.
If you could be pregnant, take a test to be sure, you don't want to be behind on your prenatal care.

I didn't get my period till my daughter was 11 months old and my son was 8 months old, both exclusively breastfed. That is one of the many benefits of breastfeeding. Doesn't work for everyone though and you never know when you'll ovulate the first time so if you don't want to get pregnant, use some form of birth control. Avoid pills though as they can interfere with milk supply.

This is what I know. If you breast feed 24/7 then you won't have a period and you won't get pregnant. But that means no night time formula bottles. Breastfeeding around the clock. The women who have gotten pregnant while breastfeeding were supplementing the feedings with formula, and that makes the difference.

Sometimes, because of the hormone levels and levels of other things, your body will not start ovulating, and you will not have a period until you wean. But it is different for every woman, some women get pregnant before they even get their periods back, so don't rely on that for bc. I wasn't that lucky. I nursed my son till he was about 14 months, but got mine back right away after i had him(along with cramps, headaches, etc.).

I didn't have one with my son for 13 months - until he stopped completely. I still haven't had one with my new baby and he is almost 7 months. You shouldn't use this as birth control though because it is possible to start ovulating sooner than before you stop nursing - just wanted to share that you aren't the only one. Congrats on the baby!!!

Probably the breast feeding. I know I didn't get mine back for at least 6 months after all 3 of my births. I know a lady who didn't get hers back for almost 18 months. Your body has to readjust, and usually when nursing, it takes longer.

I plan on breastfeeding my baby and I asked my doc. about it. He said that it would throw off my period and I may not get it until I stop. So that may be what is happening to you. But I also know a woman that got pregnant while breastfeeding..and with twins. Crazy..lol. Anyway, congrats on your new baby!
