There is no cutting the paperwork, sorry but you must do it. Do you have medical insurance on your child, if you do then you are not eligible for Medicaid. Most states have 2 forms of medicaid, one is free to you if you make below a certain amount the other cost a little bit (in Michigan it is called Mi child and costs $5.00 per month if you make more then the max for the other.)
But be it at the hospital or at the Social services office you still have to fill out the paperwork.

A hospital CANNOT refuse treatment to a patient with life-threatening injuries (to the woman talking about the knife in the back). And, most big cities have free clinics. I live in St. Louis, and both medical centers I have worked at have free clinics (one Catholic and the other a University hospital). Just call the operator and ask for the "clinic". Once you get in there, the social worker can help you with the paperwork for medicaid.

The best thing to do is talk to the hospital where your child was seen or is being seen. They have people in the billing department whose job it is to aid patients with these exact needs. The paper work still needs to be filled out, but they do it all for you and they can get you financial aide almost immediately if you qualify.
Secondly, your child cannot be denied care if you are uninsured or cannot afford to pay if it is an emergency. So, if you should have any problems always take your child through the emergency room because you cannot be refused. Once there, talk to those in the billing department. They will come to your hospital room or to your house to help.

I'm afraid there isn't any way to cut out the paperwork because that is what GETS you the benefits, but because your child certainly qualifies you should be able to sail right through the application process. It might be helpful to actually go to a Medicaid OFFICE to proceed with the application because if you have any questions they can answer them on the spot; anyway, that's how I applied for my Medicare Disability and everything went easily and quickly from start to finish. Best of luck with that, and I certainly hope your unfortunate child is able to get top-notch medical care!

Depending on the state you are in will depend on how you go about it. If your child is determined to be "handicapped", you will probably have to go through Social Security first. Start with your local health department, they can point you in the right direction for your state.
Don't give up. The whole point (in my opinion) of all the paperwork is to weed out those who really aren't eligible in the first place. The problem is that it also weeds out those who get frustrated. It's a pain in the butt, but well worth it to get your child what he or she needs and deserves.
If you come across anything you have questions about, feel free to email me. I'll try to help if I can.

No tricks you just have to goto Social Services and stay on them like crazy. Fill out everything you can and wait. Push the issue though. Don't be mean, kill'em with kindness, but stay on them.
Your local social services should have a website with information
Do the paperwork.

Just keep applying. I don't know where Marsha, the above answerer lives, but, not all places have free clinics. I live in southern Illinois, and we have no such thing in this area.
And oh yes, a hospital can refuse treatment. In St Louis, Mo, a hospital there refused to trat a man who crawed to the hospital and he had a knife in his back.
And to the one below me, where is PeachCare? Never heard of it.
