simple.

in algebra, you always have to do what you did on one side to the other side.

ON the left side. x is divided by two. So you have to multiply by two to get x by itself. But you multipy .5 by 2 also.

.5 is the same thing as 1/2. 2 * 1/2 is equal to 1.

so X is equal to one as your final answer, X =1.

x/2 = .5
x = (.5)*(2)
x = (1/2) * (2)
x = 1

For those form of questions try this, As from the equation 5(x+2)(2x-a million)=0, it is obvious that 5 = 0 (this occasion can in no way exist, so overlook approximately it) (x+2) = 0 (2x-a million) = 0 Take the latter 2 x + 2 = 0 x = -2 and 2x - a million = 0 2x = a million x = a million/2

it's just like answering this simple question:

" A number divided by 2 would give you a result of (-5), what number is it ? "

Clearly, x = -10 since (-10)/2 = -5.

Another way to solve it out, you simply MULTIPLY BOTH SIDES by 2, which gives you a resut x = -10 since 2*(-5) = -10.

x/2=-5
2*x=-5*2 (multiply 2 by both sides in order to solve for x)
x=-10

in order to clear the denominator of 2, multiply each side by the same number (2), renaming the equation and removing the fraction. the result is x= -10

x/2 = -5

by multiplication property of equality,
we can multiply both sides be 2

(x/2)*2 = -5*2

2x/2 = -10

2/2=1 (identity property of multiplication)

therefore,

x = -10
