One of my family members just recentley opened a Pizza business and its doing great. Other ideas are consignment shops where people bring stuff into your shop to sell and you get a percantage of what it sells for because you sold it for them.

Look in the Classified Section of Your Local Newspaper, under the Miscellaneous Section, and find out what's Selling in Your Area from Individual to Individual with no Stores involved. Maybe You can fill that Need. Also, Mail Order Surplus Items can generate a lot of Sales, especially with the Holidays coming soon. One of My Favorites is American Science & Surplus. They've been in Business for nearly 70 Years, and have some of the best Prices around. Example, Full Page Magnifying Sheet [Item#8665] $2.00 Each.I gave away a Bunch. You can Mark this up to $5.00, and they will sell ! Many other good Items as well ! Check them out On-Line at http://www.sciplus.com and Click on the Item I mentioned. Pictures and Prices are Provided for everything. Even better, Order a Catalog. And Orders Typically take less than 1 Week ! Also, do You still have any Connections with the Farm ? Would You be allowed to Sell Local Organically Grown Food ? Maybe Give Away some "Free" Food with every Purchase of $25 or more, and then Write that Off as a Business Expense ? Hope this Helps !

Check the demographics of the area and survey the residents what type of business they would like to see in the area. You may consider a restaurant or a computer shop or a computer shop that serves food??? :) Follow you heart on what you want to do for the community and the money will follow. Just make sure that there's a market for whatever product or service you want to offer. Consider an independent Ebay seller store where you can take in items on consignment to sell online. There are some nice commissions in that for people who don't have the time, energy, skills or equipment to do it for themselves. Make sure you have a binding contract reviewed by an attorney.
