This is my first time growing Tomatoes. I planted in May and the first Tomatoes came out gorgeous big and juicy. As the season progressed I noticed they kept growing but before turning RED they began cracking open, like over strech. Is that a sign of too much water?

Cracks could be caused for several reasons like over watering (if weather is getting cooler may be the problem is you are watering to early in the day try 2 or 3 after sunset at least), heavy rain, long period of drought, and wide fertilizing variations.

The best way to control the cracking is a constant regular supply of water, there is a waxy out side layer on the tomato and when it doesn't get enough water is will swell up and then the cracks form -- still taste good but not good looking

I had the same problen too. This is also my first time growing tomatoes and they too cracked but not all and some cracked after they were ripe. I don't think it's due to over watering though. The tomatoes were still great though....looking forward to next year....Sry I couldn't answer but I'm with ya...Good Luck!

After a rain, sometimes tomatoes crack from the swelling.

Tomatoes like lots of sunshine. They can handle all the sun that you give them. Gardens need plenty of water.

Yes it is. Tomatoes are very full of juice. Any time they crack whether green or ripe, it's because they soaked up too much water and grew too fast. This is especially true if you don't water them often enough.
