I know (or know of) several women who proposed marriage to their boyfriends. I don't necessarily mean the women dropped down to one knee and offered up a ring. But in one way or another, they were the first to bring up the topic of getting married, instead of their boyfriends bringing it up.

Each of the scenarios are quite different from each other; the common bond is that they all turned out good, and the couple ended up getting married. :)

I wondered how many other folks this has happened to? Whether you're the woman who did the asking, or the man who got asked, I'd love to hear your stories. Thanks!

P.S. You know what they say about the word "assume". *chuckle* I did not necessarily ask this because I'm considering it myself. That may, or may not, be something I would do. I *would*, however, like to do a freelance article on this topic (I'm a writer). So, hopefully I can gather some good anecdotes here. :)

Let's look at it this way...it may not be a very common thing to do . What the heck this is the 21st century..women are becoming more liberal and assertive. I don't see why not! If you see I see a guy that I like ..I would approach him and ask him out and to a greater extent ask him to marry me if I feel he completes me. It's absolutely not an act of desperation...but rather making a bold step, and wanting to spend the rest of your life with someone; you won't know unless you ask and who says the guy has to ask first...we both want it don't we?

For a change because men always do this work, i think its cool for a woman to propose to a man. Like the movie the Proposal, the girl forcibly ask the guy to marry him. But when I saw that scene i said to myself what if I'll do that but not with the forcing thing.

I did the asking. :)

We were extremely young when we met, and fell pretty hard for one another. At the time I was 17 & he was 19.
(Long story short) He spoke about marriage often; myself being brought up in a broken home I had my reservation on making a life time commitment with someone. After a long courtship (six years) I just knew it was worth finding out how long our marriage would last. Seventeen years together and ten years as a married couple,it's safe to say we are still hanging on!

I actually think that most of the time the subject of marriage is brought up first by the woman. It just seems that marriage is more important to woman.

that star trek vulcan chick, whats her name?
on an episode of the daily show i think she said she proposed to her guy. i think its more and more common.
but it takes a special guy to be able to handle it.
its kinda weird for guys. but im sure things will change in time. equality is slowly happening, so women should take more initiave. like asking the guy out instead of the guy always making the first move.

we were both stubborn on who was gonna ask who first but i asked him and we are getting married next year well 08. so after i can tell you how it works. i had been married before and i was waiting for him to ask me cause i wasnt used to a woman asking a man i thought it was something the men wanted to just go brag about to their friends and homies saying yeah i got her to ask me to marry her so she will take care of me.that is how i was thinking, but it still remains to be said. i did ask him and i dont regret it. that dont mean i will be the only one paying for it. :)

I personally have had two women bring up marriage to me. It turned me away from them. Why do people think they have to get married to be complete? MARRIAGE IS THE WORST THING YOU COULD EVER DO.
