But then i take a picture and i look soo ugly my nose looks crooked and my face looks really round and chubby but in the mirror it doesnt. I even asked my mom if my nose is crooked and she said no i even asked my friends and they say no. Why is that?
In my passport photo i look like im retarted and fat and i only weigh 98lbs...

Mirror is definately more truthful. I feel that I look horrible in pictures too. They seem to focus on and magnify your qualities that you wish would stay hidden. Unless you go to Glamour Shots! They make you look good with like 5 lbs of makeup!

Passport, driver's license, school pictures, they all are pictures where you are posing by looking straight ahead into the camera. This is an unflattering pose for most people. The harsh lights and flatness of the photo make even the best looking person appear plain.
When you get a professional to take your photos, he/she will tell you how to pose to look best in front of the camera. If you ever get professional photos done, you'll love the way you look.
Ignore the photos, believe the mirror and the people around you.

anytime that you take a picture for a; license or passport or anything that is set up with the same back ground for 100s of millions of other people, NEVER count on the picture looking good. Remember back in those school days when everyone tried to look their best for picture day and then no one was satisfied...you want great pictures have someone take them while your in motion not paying attention and not posing for the camera. I am actually overweight and don't want to brag but was very impressed by my driver's license photo, it all just matters how the camera gets you. I wouldn't worry a bit!!!!

Hi! I am in a psychology class where we just discussed your situation. It is called the "mere-exposure effect." When a person sees something over and over, such as your reflection in the mirror, you develop a positive attitude towards it just from repeatedly seeing it. However, when seeing something that you don't see as much, such as your face in a photo, you will have a more negative attitude towards it. This is the basis that most advertising companies have when they show you their product over and over on TV. Psychologists have done studies with hundreds of women, showing them two pictures, one of themselves in the mirror and one of themselves in a photo (without the women knowing which was which), and the great majority picked the mirror one. (the mirror photo was just a mirror image of the photograph). So you are not the only one. Don't worry. As for the passport photo...those are designed not to make ANYONE look good. Hope this helps.

Yep even men have that problem...It's the angle. DMV seems to corner the market on the "bad angle"
Best answer would be to practice your own "good angle" as you look in the mirror. Look at some of your better pictures and try the same smile. Sounds funny but that's why photographers "pose" you.

Your reflection is a actually a backward view. So what you see in the mirror on the left is actually on the right and on right the left. Its not necessarily that different to others but if you look as yourself in the mirror everyday its the view you're used to. I'm sure you are beautiful either way.

well, for dmv licenses, passports etc. .... not even BRAD PITT looks good, okay? The reason for that is you feel unnatural and awkward, they put you in the worst lighting, with an unflattering background, so dont' feel bad. it's just a bad photo situation. i'd suggest getting or borrowing a digital camera from someone (if you do'nt have one), and taking like 40 (seriously) pictures of yourself doing serious face, funny face, calm face, excited face in different lighting situations (outside, inside)....and then download them all to your computer and compare which ones look the best....some people are photogenic and that's because thye've PRACTICED! dont' feel bad ! just practice. trust me-it works. i've done it.

You shouldn't think you are not pretty.... of course you are... when you look in the mirror - you see you - a normal looking girl who is not ugly, and thats what matters... cause thats just what you are. Don't sweat it... I feel that way too sometimes when I look at my photos... just means the photographer is off... not you!

you should believe what people tell you. Sometimes people get a distorted picture of themselves in their head and can only see that no matter what. You may have a disorder also. You should probably talk to a DR. about this if it worsens. Good Luck
