I am 23 years old, I have been on birth control pills for 5 years straight.

My doctor changed my pills to a different brand about 8 months ago. Last month I noticed I was having break through bleeding. I was spotting brown blood everyday for 2 weeks.

I have never missed a pill or taken any late. I finished that pack, had a short 4 day period, and started my new pill pack two days ago and I am having break through bleeding again!

My husband and I have unprotected sex, so I took a pregnancy test 3 weeks ago and one again today and both were negative.

I am not having any pregnancy symptoms, and I am 100% sure it is not STDs. All my check ups are perfect and I have never had this happen before or ever been pregnant.

Why would my pills all of a sudden start causing this after 8 months?

Is my body rejecting my birth control pills?

Could I get pregnant because of the break through bleeding?

I have a doctor's appointment, but I have to wait 2 weeks because they "can't get me in" until then unless its an emergency! Ugh.

It sounds like the pill you're on now might have a lower dosage of estrogen than the one you were on before. It will take some time for your body to adjust. I tried Seasonal because I liked the idea of only having my period 4 times a year but had to give it up because the spotting in between periods was worse than having your period once a month. I went back to my original birth control and the spotting stopped. You should call your doctor and see if she can switch you to something a little stronger.

You should be fine. My fiance was doing the same exact thing when she first started. The only difference is that she is taking depo and not the pill. She has been fine ever since so I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. That being said, I do not claim to be a doctor so it may be in your best interest to check with your doctor before anything serious occurs.

It may be that your body is trying to adjust to the new pills. Or that they arent effective for you. I would call your doc. and let them know so they can check you out to see if they are good enough for you. I dont think that you are pregnant, however, there is still a chance of pregnancy when you have sex. I would have them do a blood test when you go just to make sure. I hope that everything works out okay for you!

If the blood is brown and not red, it means that it may be coagulating (clotting) in you uterus. I work in the OR and assist on alot of gynecological procedures and I think this warrants an immediate visit to your OB/GYN. All of the procedures that I have done the blood is bright red, unless we have done something to coagulate the blood. It could also be old blood. Is the spotting during or before you menses? I am by no means a physician, but I can tell you that you should see your OB/GYN ASAP.

ok this is scary, you need to go to the doctor and tell them whats happening because it sounds like your having some form of blood clotting or allergic reaction, I dont think your going to get prego because your on the pill but thats defanitaly a RED FLAG that something is really wrong.....please go check it out before you end up in the hospital

Sometimes with b/c you can have break through bleeding after being on it for months. Call your dr and make her aware of what is going on. I am sure that you are OK.

Its probably because you switched brands. You've been on the same pill for soooo long, that your body is probably getting use to the new brand. Im sure your not pregnant.

Why don't you go back to your doctor and see what he/she has to say on this??? He/she is the one that prescribed them.
