How did you escape??Throw me a line..I want OUT!!!
Today we heard from the superintendent who glossed through the PowerPoint to explain where all the money goes..he came visiting the school, which means he's making contact before some bombshell hits the fan..we have no paper-rationed, copy machines always broken but the real problems are parents who don't support the school, too much testing especially in the spring and a student population who really don't give a rip about education. There are parents who are and there are teachers who manage to be very creative and motivating but I am really frustrated by the push to perform on testing all the time. Even my own kids never seem to study anything in depth..hurry up and get ready for the next test!
So what did you go into? Are you happy? or just having a normal life with no lesson plans to write at midnight Sunday night?!

Teaching is awful especially for men. I showed students a Beyonce` music video and this was enough for the police to open an investigation into my activities. Try explaining to the community that police were only there to investigate you based on you showing a Beyonce music video. I was instantly classified as some perverted man in their eyes, and all I ever did was pour my life into the families of the school. Obviously I changed careers now and make twice what I did as a teacher. Nough said.

I don't know if it's one of the worst, but it is a challenge. I just retired from teaching and I feel like a gigantic weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I think what made it so difficult in the last few years is that teachers get so little respect, not just from students, but also from administrators, parents, boards of education and the general public. Our English teachers have been told to teach 90% non-fiction in their classes because the ACT uses a lot of non-fiction. What kind of nonsense is that?

Over the age of consent? Then there is only the official teacher-pupil relationship to consider and the law will differ from one place to another. But in UK I believe that it is illegal whatever the age of the student, though if she was over 18 the law would probably not be applied. At some point she has to be called an adult. Haz' story reminds me of a case I read of recently. Female student aged 16 develops crush on 35 year old male teacher. He tells her to leave him alone but 3 years later they marry. All legal, she's long out of school. Marriage lasts about 5 years but eventually they divorce. He remarries - her mother!

I think teachers are taken for granted. They are not paid enough for the work they do since their work also is carried into their home life after school...they are the ones who in a way shape the individuals who develop into the future working people. Students don't understnad the hard work of being a teacher and i think that public education in America is SHAMEFUL and the worst in the world....

That depends on where you teach - city or country or small school - small town values or big city... location location location.
Sometimes you get a great school in the city or a lousy school in a small town. It's luck of the draw.
You can have great kids and stunned parents.
You just never know.

My wife is a teacher here in Canada. She often despairs about so many things going downhill - kids attitudes - stupid parents who think they know everything. But ask yourself this - with the way the world is changing - do these kids need you MORE now or LESS. Think about it - of course it's a bruising job - but if you give up then who will give any of us - especially today's kids - hope for the future ? Please - stay with it.

Not having taught, I can't say for sure, but have you ever worked in food service? Talk about a thankless job!
