Gallileo, and they landed at the same time.

(The story is apocryphal though. We don't know if he actually performed the experiment)

Galileo Galilei was the one who conducted, allegedly, this experiment. He knew there was a force that held everything to the Earth, but didn't know what, how or why. The results of the experiment showed that objects, regardless of size, fall at the same rate, so both objects hit the ground at the same time. This works best when they are the same shape (or your are on the moon or other atmosphereless object.)
