I went to college before and withdrew b/c it was too much $ and 1500 miles from home. Now I'm back in school again, but I've been sick for a month now with back to back viruses and flu and such and I've missed a lot of class time. I'm so behind on work and if I miss another day I fail the course completely. I'm not even sure what I want to do with my life, so picking my classes is difficult and I chose the wrong ones. Should I just take a leave of absence for a semester go to the doctors and figure out what I want to do? Or suck it up and deal with it?

Try a vocational school close to home.

Get out.

It sounds like you aren't even sure you want to be in school anyway. Don't make the mistake of going to college just because everybody else is doing it.

Just drop out, and don't be in a rush to go back. Take a year or two off. Get a minimum-wage job somewhere, find a cheap apartment, and get a feel for the ground level of employment in America.

Once the novelty wears off, and you can no longer bear eating Ramen noodles three times a day, think about going back. But have a plan in mind. Don't major in anything that ends in the word "studies" (Religious Studies, Cultural Studies, Women's Studies, etc.). Pick something that is directly related to an actual profession.

When you do return to school, go to class on time, do your homework, talk to your teachers after class, keep a good relationship with your academic advisor, lay off the booze, don't do drugs, and when your resolve begins to fade, remember your experiences as an unskilled laborer.

I wish somebody had given me this advice when I was in your position. It would have saved me a lot of hard knocks.

I'd take a leave, figure out what is wrong with you medically, and figure out what you want to do with your life. I put myself into huge debt going to school (but missing lots of classes for illness and such) for a degree I ultimately didn't want and can't really get a decent job with anyway.

You need to figure out what you want in life, and once you've decided, go for it with all your might. Half-@ssing will only make you miserable in the long run.

Everyone always tmakes a big deal about going to college right out of highschool. Those that do, and know what they want to do, that's great, but for the rest of us, we would be better off taking some time off to make a wise decision. It won't hurt you and will likely help you to be a more dedicated and efficient student when you do go back.

Best of luck!!

See a doctor. I spent a winter with back to back illnesses. The doctor said my tonsills were enlarged and suggested I have them removed. Once they were removed, I felt much better and haven't even sniffled since. That was almost 2 years ago. Recovery takes about 1-2 weeks.

As far as your classes go, I would encourage you to complete the semester - but I do have to admit I don't know what would be best for you.

that is a hard decision to answer, it is best that you talk to a few family members, and maybe a guidance counselor and talk it over with them.
