I know what you mean and I've wondered about that myself. I think it is partly from our personal background and experience. My high school boyfriend was 6'5" and I am 5'2". Dancing was murder! But I've always been keen on tall guys- I did, however, marry a man 5'7".
I was driving along once and saw a man carrying a large box up on his shoulder. That was strangely attractive to me - I just like the subtle differences in men and women and the way they do things.
There are some things that are absolutely unappealing to me as well. Number 1 on the list is guys who try too hard to look cool or sexy. I went whitewater rafting last weekend and most of the guides were young fellas. It was not a hot day and out of about 100 people boarding the buses, one person alone was shirtless. It was a guide who obviously spends a lot of time building his pecs. Guys, if you're muscular, women are not idiots. We can tell even if you keep your shirt on. Going shirtless just to show off is so not cool.

For the same reason male birds sing and posture and make glorious displays of their feathery magnificence during mating season. It's all part of the sensory attraction dance. Think peacocks, man. It's nature.
