Absolutely.

Ever noticed how the biggest jerks in the world are that way because they're miserable? They want to make everybody else miserable, too, so they don't have to be alone.

No but it does tend to spread like wildfire.

From an earlier question I read today, I would say it is the opposite company love misery. Some people feel left out if their mate doesn't want to share their misery with them.

At any rate, misery is a virus just waiting to infect you if you let it.

Misery is lonely. It needs a good mate. Someone who's sad. In a down beaten state. To share that dark path. To go hand in hand.
Yes,misery loves company. Like grease loves a pan.

Perhaps, but company doesn't love misery. People usually don't want to be alone when they are in mourning. Funerals are for the living -- the dead could care less.

Absolutely...
In my experiences, I have found that when others are feeling down or out... and they are dealing with someone who is having a good day... somehow - they attempt to steal that person's joy... Maybe it can be unintentional - but its still done.
When a person is feeling "miserable", they tend to think in a negative way - and in those conversations they have with the people they interact with - it can rub off on in a negative manner...
Best thing to do though - - - is to never allow anyone to stela your joy. Especially if you know they are feeling bad... Block it! And rub a little sunshine their way.... A good friend will thank you for it later - if they can appreciate having you as a friend.

i don't think so. Misery happens randomly. When it happens you just get depressed, you concentrate on the problem and take too close to heart if something else negative happens.
Just my opinion!

Yes, as Voltaire illustrated in his book Candide it is comforting to know someone is a little worse off than you. When you are down and out and pathetic, you sometimes like to be around someone who has it just a little worse than you so you can say to yourself "Well at least I'm not as bad off as them."

Sad but too often true, theres comfort that there is always someone a little more miserbable than you.

Oh yeah. Didn't you ever have to deal with that miserable customer service person who totally hates life and tries to make other people miserable, too? Or that "naysayer" that no matter what you do, they say it will come out wrong because the world is out to get you?
Happens all the time. I like to be real cheerful to people like that :)
