This is part 2 of my 1st post. So people got mix feelings for synthetic motor oil but I have a 2001 Toyota Sequoia with barely 40000 miles. My question are:
1) Should I continue to use synthetic motor oil recommended by the dealer? (Mobil 1 synthetic oil)
2) or should I or can I change back to the regular motor oil to save money?
3) any obvious benefits for my car to use synthetic oil? better mileage, good for the engine.. etc.
I live in Los Angeles, so better part of the year is not that hot anyway and my work is onlyaverage 8 miles a day or less.

If it isn't leaking, you should keep using it. the engine will outlive you!

No lack of opinions this time either. The only times synthetic motor oil is superior to regular motor oil is under temperature or loading extremes. Synthetic is superior when using your SUV to tow your trailer up the Rockies in July and it is superior when starting your pickup in Fairbanks in January. Excepting the above and assuming one uses the manufacturer's recommended oil, you will never know the difference. Let us not forget that the primary reason for the use of motor oil is to reduce internal engine friction. Therefore the "best" motor oil is the one with the lowest coefficient of friction. From what I have read, under ordinary real-world driving conditions, synthetic offers no friction-reducing advantage over mineral oil. You make the decision.

Definitely synthetic.
Mobil one is awesome oil, i have a 96 mustang that has never had anything else in it, its got 200k miles, and runs very well, has had very few problems.

If you go synthetic, you have less carbon deposits, less build up.

As a commerical aircraft mechanic, all we ever put in the engines is synthetic, and it seems the more reputable aircraft owners/ companies use MobileJet II, just seems to be a patern. always run out of the MJ II quickest.

Yes, continue to use synthetic motor oil. Conventional motor oils of today are asphalt based and leaves a black deposit on and in various parts of the engine. They contain a mixture of various hydrocarbons while stnthetic oils are what one might call a super refined oil in that they are comprised of only one hydrocarbon rather than a mixture. After many miles, your engine will remain clean inside with a lot less wear on moving parts.

If you intend to keep it for a long time, then I would say yes keep using Syn.

If you intend to sell it, or trade it in, in the next two years, then I would say no, go with regular oil.

i was doing the same for my car, but a mechanic that wasn't with the dealer ship told me it was a waste of money, and the other stuff works just as good
