An organic method that sometimes works is using about a tbsp. of baking soda followed by a splash of vinegar. Then, the usual: hot, hot water and plunging. When plunging, if you have 2 sinks, make sure the other side is sealed so you get good suction. If plunging etc. doesn't work, you're stuck with the taking apart business. In terms of prevention: grease and things like pasta and rice which swell are very bad for drains so dishes should be scraped into garbage and grease wiped with paper towels before washing. Good luck. Drains are among the most maddening things in the world!

If it clogged suddenly it may very well be grease.
Go to the bathroom and fill up your four biggest pots with water
Place all four pots on stove and bring to a boil
pour all that you can into the sink
give it a few minutes
If water level goes down, but does not unstop add more boiling water
keep the water as hot as possible (you can also add some dawn to bring the grease to the top)
When it flows free follow with LOTS of hot water

DO NOT TAKE THE SINK APART WITH THE DRANO STUFF IN IT, YOU CAN GET YOURSELF HURT. i wish i was there i could unclog it in a minute, get two plungers and a friend, look under the sink and see where there is a piece of the plumbing that looks like a "U" . that is called a "p" trap, have friend place
plunger over the drain that doe not have the "p" trap under it,
with water in both sinks, and please use good plungers with cups
on them, have friend push down and hold position and you with water in your side of the sink SLOWLY plunge down a few times,
that should, after a few tries clear the drain. and then remember,
never pour anything down a drain that you would want to be poured down yourself.

yeah...I would do the plunger thing too. You could also try some alka-seltzer tablets. I've heard that they are good at unclogging and cleaning out drains. I would wait till after the draino thing though...you wouldn't want any chemical reactions or anything...just to be safe.

A plunger.
Also, a "snake". It's a long flexible cord with a small head on it. You turn the handle while cramming the thing down the drain.
