The way to avoid that is not to expect the favor to be returned. Just be nice because you want to!

All the time, i moved in with a friend to help her with money she being a single illegal parent of one child, and even though my whole family helped her on many occasions and i paid her $400 rent rent being $600, she had no problem never giving me a key when our schedules started to conflict and constantly accusing me of lying, when i took care of her child any time she had asked. I knew her for four years, she should have known better, i had been there to hold her hand on many occasion, but is was never good enough for her, she tried to control me, what i wear, who i talked to and hung out with, got jealous because i wasnt with her all of the time, she smeared my name with all our friends, and made me seem like the bad guy in all of it, she lost an awesome friend.

Of course. But I just keep my head up and know that I'm the better person. Even with them not being nice to me, I'll STILL be nice to show them I won't stoop to their level.

then you're doing things for the wrong reasons, when you're really nice it's from the heart, not expecting returns, no thank yous, no smiles, no acknowledgements, but you just felt good, and do not let those things bother u
