Tom Hanks is my favorite celebrity. I think he really cares about the movies he makes and the effort he puts into making them. He did Philadelphia when no one wanted to cause all the other actors who were offered the part didnt want people to think they were gay, sheesh. But Tom took it to a whole new level. I don't know of any other actor who can carry a 3hr movie by themselves either ( cast away )
He doesn't go out of his way to be weird or need attention from the tabloids. People respect him, PERIOD.
I read an article once where the reported asked him do you give autographs. Tom said yes BUT if my family is with me, I politely tell them sorry I am with my family now.
I just love that, he puts his family first. ALSO when his ex wife was dying, he flew her to california to be with them ( their kids )
I just think hes an inspiration and when he gives an award speech the emotion and love he shows for his wife is unwaivering
plus he practically got the ww2 memorial wall built!

IMHO it's mostly the media who have an impact on if someone is to become a celeb or not.
What makes someone a celeb to me?
-Talent
-The way they behave towards their fans.....and I mean towards the "normal"
fans, not the ones who behave like stalkers, or in another intrusive way.
I DO think celebs should make a reasonable amount (keyword being
reasonable) of their time free for their fans.....after all, they KNEW before-
hand that, SHOULD they become celebs, fans would want to see them, or
just greet them, know what I mean?
My fav. celeb at the moment is Blythe Danner.
Of course I've got a few more fav. celebs, amongst whom are Macca and Ringo Star (yes, I'm from that period, LOL) .....Ringo Star has his own website, on which he regularly tells his fan, via clips, what he's doing at the moment, and what he likes to do in the future. I think that's a smart way to stay in touch with your fans, cuz IMHO he thus prevents fans from becoming too intrusive just to get to know or see things.

yeah good question..,what makes someone a celebrity, and another not..? i think its the idolizing of other people that makes one a celebrity, regardless for wich quality one is idolized.
i mean like a singer can be a celebrity,or an actor, but even so is hitler a celebrity, everybody knows him too..,and it seems that royalty automatically becomes a celebrity..hmm,some are a celebrity for what they have done,or for what they thought..
anyway..
all for worldpeace are my favorites..like jesus,boudha,ghandi..
thx for the question,greetings
