People typically visit a normal Dr first, just to get confirmation of their pregnancy with a urine test and then they get sent for a blood test. I think the Dr then needs to actually give you a referral to an Obstetrician. It will cost you more if you just go to an Ob on your own without the referral. If your Dr has odd hours then you can safely go to ANY Dr and ask for a referral. Do some research into Obstetricians (ask friends, look at baby websites for your area and peoples comments), find one that will suit you. You will have a LOT of appointments so find one that's local. Once you have their name, get any Dr to write you that referral. You will need to start being cared for by an Obstetrician who can guide you along the way. You start off needing monthly appointments, and then it goes to fortnightly and then weekly. Book soon as Obstetricians are VERY difficult to get into see. Good luck!

I think you should possibly find a different doctor. One who keeps regular hours 8am-5pm. It doesn't sound like you're all that happy with the doctor and hopefully your clinic is large enough and you do have a plethora of other doctors to choose from. God Bless!!

It is important during your pregnancy to get prenatal care as early as possible. Maybe you can try rearranging your work schedule so you can fit these times in. If not ask if there is a nurse practitioner you can see in the same office. If all else fails maybe he can refer you to someone else who can accommodate your work schedule a little better.

Consider find another doctor. But also realize that babies don't understand "Mommy has to go to work." Be prepared for a lot of life changes!! Good luck!

change doctors, definitely if you want to talk to just him, unless you are ok with calling him on the phone. it may be that because he is an OB GYN that he is on call a lot but he should have a nurse practitioner around that can take his place when needed.

Try to work out an appointment. If you can't, get a new doctor.

Try switching to another doctor and try asking him (your current doctor) who he can refer you to so that you can be accomodated. Hope all works out for the best and congrats!

Switch OB's... or schedule an appointment a few weeks from now, and request that time off from work (or call in sick... whatever) . Simple. :D
