depends on what type of music you are looking for. Some great songs are
The Dance by Garth Brooks and
Tuesdays Gone by Lynard Skynard.
I hope you dance by LeeAnn Womack
See you on the other side by Ozzy Osbourne
House of Pain by Faster Pussycat
Somthing to believe in by Poison
Stairway to heaven by Led Zeppelin

These songs were played at a dear friends funeral yes a combination of rock and country but it touched everyone that was there and knew him.

My ultimate favorite is Fingerprints Of God by: Steven Curtis Chapman, but I also like amazing grace, this is an easy subject to look up.
I would suggest going to a library and looking through music books specifically for funerals.
You will probably find a lot there.
It also depends on the type of music you want.
If you are looking for something a little more pop, go to a website with pop songs, or closely listen to the pop on the radio.
Begin writing things down. If you are looking for something a little more christian then church hymnals are always a good place to start.
Mostly though, anything you are looking for, you can usually find in a library.
Do a yahoo search for songs about life, since that's what you are looking for.
It is hard for people to tell you what a good funeral song is since there are so many out there.
People don't know exactly what you are looking for, or who the song is for.
It would take forever if you go off of other peoples suggestions.
No one knows if you want it fast, slow, loud, soft, happy, or sad.
I sing songs all the time that would be great for your situation, but again you can find all of those In a library.
Instruments have a big part in it to.
I wish you the best of luck in finding a song, there are so many songs out there, it shouldn't be to hard.
Have a wonderful day!

First, I want to say I am so sorry for what you are going through.
Doing a video tribute is a really wonderful way to celebrate the life of the departed. When my husband died, we did a video through the funeral home, it was part of the funeral package. I wanted to choose a song that he loved and represented him. "Little WIng" by Jimi Hendrix was one of his all time favorites and so appropriate....one of the lines goes something like "..fly on my sweet angel..." The Hendrix version was too short for the video so my late husband's brother found an instrumental version by Stevie Ray Vaughn, another one of my husbands favorites. It was perfect. Also, I went to a funeral where the lady who passed away loved Elvis, so they played several Elvis songs
My suggestion is to think about what music your loved one liked and find an appropriate song from that list. You can't go wrong. Just remember, this is for the memory of your departed loved one, not for anyone else. Don't worry about what "others" are going to say.

I like may_angel's answer although I cannot vote yet. I also like Fingerprints of God especially if you are doing a DVD of their life! It is a great song! In fact a lot of Steven Curtis Chapman, and Michael w smith songs are good. Even though they are mainly about god, most are talking about how god made "you" etc etc...

There's this song by Danity Kane called Stay With Me which is beautiful and it's kinda slow and it can be emotional.

Also, maybe Goodbye to You by Michelle Branch but I'm not sure.
