You mean of course a fraction less than one. A value less than one can be represented by 1/n, where n is greater than one. If we take the square root of the fraction sqrt(1/n), this is the same as 1/sqrt(n). n we said was greater than one; as you pointed out then, sqrt*(n) is smaller than n. When the denominator of a fraction gets smaller, the value of the fraction get bigger.

It's just like dividing. You are conditioned to think that when you divide, your answer should be smaller than what you started with. But when you divide by a proper fraction or a decimal between 0 and 1, the answer comes out bigger.
