It's a wrecked/totaled vehicle that hasn't been rebuilt.
You can rebuild on and get a salvage title.
Contact your state motor vehicle department.
Usually it isn't worth the time and energy if you have no backround in restoration...

I asked a very similar question not too long ago, but here is how it breaks down:

There are three categories of a salvaged vehicle: Collission, Flood, and Theft.

Of the three Theft is the least troublesome. These cars were stolen and then strpped down to the frame. So long as the person who rebuilt the car is using 100% original parts, theft shouldn't be a problem.

Collission is when the car has been in a severe accident. To the point where the car was not in driveable conidition without being repaired. Somtimes these cars can have frame damage which is a major no-no. If you end up buying a car that has frame damage you do not want to be in another collission in that car trust me.

Flood is the worst. However fresh water flood is not as bad as a collission. Salt water flood will cause your car to rust. In the end the car will be very problematic. Be carefull there are a lot of Flood cars on the market now due to Katrina.

Hope that helped...

a vehicle that has been deemed a total loss, more damage then it be to repair it, according to an insurance company. the vehicle is sold to a salvage (junk) yard, and they sell them for parts or for repair. if someone buys it and repairs it and gets a new title, the title is branded and placed into dvm systems as a salvage title

a vehicle that has been totalled due to flooding, accident, etc. check with carfax before buying. flood cars are a gamble; it might work one day, and nothing the next day. my ex roommate had a salvage titled pontiac which was a boatload of problems. my advice: run.

a salvage vehicle is a vehicle that has been repaired to manufacture specifications

could be damage from theft, flood,or collision...

id NEVER buy a flooded/collision salvaged vehicle..as its never possible to properly repair it. theft is OK..cuz there just replacing parts..usually no damage is hardly done
