For most universities you need a PhD to be hired as a professor. But it depends. In some cases you might be hired if you have only a MA or MS Master's degree. Like, in a community college, you might only need a Master;s degree because the students you teach are only working on their AA or AS Associates degree. Generally you have to be at least one degree ahead of the kids you are teaching, so if the students are working on their Masters, then you need a PhD. Since most colleges and universities have students working on MS or MA, they want to hire profs who are PhDs.
It takes four years to get a BA or BS bachelor;s degree. Then it takes at least 2 years, or sometimes more, to get a Masters, and then it takes from 3 -5 years more to get the PhD. So, if you want to be a professor, you have to plan on spending quite a lot of time in school -- hey, that's OK, though because if you didnt like school, there would be no point in you trying to get to be a professor, would there!
There are very few, if any, professors who have only a BS or BA degree, That might happen in a special field like music, where they would have a BA but many, many years experience as a professional musician.
ps the person who suggests that schools should hire retired persons is way off base. Retired people were mostly educated about 40 years ago. They have job experience, but their skills are WAY out of date and they have a tough time learning the new skills that have been developed in the colleges while they were out there working in industries that sometimes are not modernized!

You can teach at the college level with a bachelor's degree. But to become a full time faculty member you would need a Doctorate. You can become a college "professor" with a masters degree. Most college teachers don't have a Doctorate. They may have a masters in a few different areas. The pay is better if you are a tenured professor. Part time faculty members or associate members of a teaching staff have a bachelor's or higher. Does that make sense? you have a lot of options.

1) Go to university -->get your Ph.D
2) Do the post doc after your Ph.D
3)Have some good publications
4) Have strong communication abilities and interpersonal skills
5)Find people who can help you to reach your goal = I mean good friends or colleagues who help you out with your goal
6) You should speak very well and be organized
7) last but not least; you should have the ability to make plans and organize a team work --> maybe start a lab or something
I think that's it!
Good luck and never give up on your dreams.

Stay in skool for a long, long time. This is why most of them are so well educated but know little or nothing about how things work out in the real world. Most of them have never had a life outside of a class room. US students could receive a much better education if they were taught by successful retired persons.

You have to have a Ph.D in your respective field or be in the process of obtaining one.
If you want to teach at a community college, all you need is an M.A.

First, begin by using proper grammer: "...A Professor", not "an".
And do you mean "Nutty" or just a plain ol' university professor????
