If you are already dilated somewhat, then yes, walking can help you dialate faster. When I was in l labor with my daughter, I went into the hospital when my contractions became two minutes apart. As soon as I was admitted, the contractions were one on top of the other w/o any breaks in between. I was only dilated 2 cm though so they sent me home. As soon as I got home I started pacing the apartment because I can't stand being in pain without being able to move. My water broke at home only a half hour after I was sent home. I went back to the hospital, and the nurses rolled their eyes because they just sent me home less than an hour before, and they insisted I couldn't even be close to having the baby. They still did an examination, and not only was I dilated to 10 cm already, but her head was crowning. They had to rush me into a delivery room. An hour later she was born. It was only two hours total from the time I was dilated at 2 cm and sent home until the time she was born. I believe the walking sped up my dilation considerably. I still want to go back and slap the nurses who accused me of acting like a baby!

It will help you to dialate, but there is no telling how much walking it will take to progress through your dialation. My doctor in Kentucky made a regular habit of sending women who were at a standstill in labor to Wal-Mart to do laps. They'd walk for 3 hours (unless the contractions became too intense) and then came back to the hospital to see if the walking helped. Good luck.

I agree with some of the others. It won't make you dialate or go into labor, however, it will speed up the process once already started.

It can't MAKE you dialate, however if you are in labor, and you go walking, it can assist in dilation. It will not cause it to start.

I don't think it can make you dilate, but it can hep with the discomfort of early labor. It really depends on the individual. I never wanted to move when I was in labor, but I know others who walked the halls the whole time.

When you're 'in labour' at the hospital, they make you walk up and down the halls to help your dilation. Before you're in labour (during your regular pregnancy time.) too much walking can make you go into labour earlier than the norm. You didn't specify which time you meant, so I gave you both scenarios.
Hope that helped!
