Of course a black person can be pope. The catholic church (and the bible) do not seem to say much about race in that sense.

Any single man can be Pope. He doesn't have to be Catholic and he doesn't have to be a priest or Cardinal, according to Canon, or Church, law. In reality, there hasn't been a non Cardinal, non Catholic Pope in hundreds of years. However, there are several Black cardinals in the Church. I believe that one African cardinal is very popular and was a distant candidate for Pope the last time. I've heard some say that a "Black Pope" is a sign of the end of the world, but I don't know where they get that.

If he's catholic and single, he can be the pope. Of course, he's got to go to seminary and become a priest, first. Then rise through the ranks to archbishop before he can become pope. It's not something you actually run for. It's not like a government office. Yes, the pope is elected by the College of Cardinals, but it's not something a person campaigns for.

The church has had 3 African popes. Pope Victor I (186-198 - seen a saint), Pope Miltiades (311-14 - additionally seen a saint), and Pope Gelasius (492-496 - additionally seen a saint). All Africans After JPII handed, i for my area theory Cardinal Arinze could be the subsequent pope.

As long as he is Catholic he can become a Pope. Before that though, he has to become a priest, then bishop, then cardinal. They have to make it up the hierarchy. Since there are fewer black priests, let alone black cardinals, this hasnt happened yet. But it could. My guess is it would be someone from Africa, not an African American as most African Americans are Protestants.

Yes any cardinal could have become pope when the last one died. There are cardinals from all races. There is a bias towards European popes, I believe simply because they have controlled the Vatican forever.
There was a call for a Latin American pope this time but it didnt happen.

You do not run for pope. A conclave of Archbishops gather in the vatican city and discuss whom the want to be pope. There was speculation this time that there could have been a black pope chosen.

Yes. There are black Cardinals in the Vatican. Pope's are chosen by the colleve of cardinals who, through prayer and reflection, choose among themselves who will lead the Church. The decision is based upon faith and devotion, and not race or ethnicity. You dont run for Pope, you are selected. Anyone who campaigned for the job would probably not get it.

Every Cardinal has a chance to become a Pope even if he is black. There is no type of color of a cardinal but depends on his qualification to become a Pope.

Of course, why couldn't a black person be pope? One was even up for the position after John Paul II died. You do have to be Catholic though.
